New Opera House (Oslo - Norway)
The construction of the new Opera House in Oslo was completed early in 2008. This extraordinary marble structure on the edge of the Bjørvika Fjord in Oslo was designed by the Norwegian architectural firm Snøhetta. Its shape and size give the Opera House the look of an iceberg at sea.
On the inside the building has been finished in a variety of materials, much of it wood. To ensure consistency in style, the materials and colours of the doors had to match. At the same time the doors had to be fire-resistant for 60 minutes and have a sound insulation value of 50 dB. Merford was one of the few companies in Europe capable of meeting all the requirements and supplied fire-resistant and sound-insulating doors with panic exit devices for this high-quality project.
